Fire guts Radio Nigeria Lagos office

A late evening fire erupted at the premises of Radio Nigeria on Plot No. 35, Ikoyi Road, Ikoyi, Lagos, on Wednesday, prompting swift emergency response from multiple fire stations across the state.

The fire, which started around 5:30 p.m., engulfed the studio section of the U-shaped one-storey building.

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority confirmed the incident via its official X account, warning commuters to avoid the area as emergency teams battled the inferno.

It posted, “#Ikoyi Fire Accident. Radio Nigeria is on fire while fire fighters are already on the ground to put out the fire.

“Meanwhile all the roads have been blocked for motorists to go through alternative routes.”

Firefighters from Dolphin, Ebute Elefun, and Oba Oniru Fire Stations were first on the scene, supported by the Federal Fire Service, the Nigeria Police Force, and other emergency responders.

In a Channels TV report on Wednesday night, the Director of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Margaret Adeseye, said her agency’s swift intervention prevented the fire from spreading beyond the studio section.

“Although the fire was well-alight when we arrived, collaborative efforts with our partners have contained it,” Adeseye said in a statement.

“No casualties have been reported, and damping down of the fire embers is currently ongoing,” she added.

The cause of the fire remains unknown, but investigations are underway.

Authorities have assured the public that further updates will be provided as the situation evolves.

Motorists and residents are advised to exercise caution and cooperate with emergency responders as they work to restore normalcy in the area.

Meanwhile, LASTMA, in its latest update on X said a closed road is now opened for movement.

“Obalende inward Passport Office has now been opened for movement,” the update read.
