Reports that suspended Rivers State Governor Siminialayi Fubara knelt before his predecessor, former Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike, to plead for forgiveness have been refuted by Ezebunwo Ichemati, the ousted Chairman of the Port Harcourt Local Government Area.
It was discovered that the reports claimed that as part of a larger reconciliation attempt to end the ongoing political unrest in Rivers State, Fubara had met with Wike in Abuja.
According to reports, a former Southwest governor and two All Progressives Congress (APC) governors sponsored the meeting.

During the meeting, Fubara reportedly bowed and begged Wike for forgiveness, requesting assistance in restoring him to his position as governor.
In a statement released on Wednesday, April 30, 2025, Ichemati asserted that although Fubara was in a good mood and dedicated to the peace and progress of Rivers, he would not do so while kneeling.
Ichemati urged the people to ignore the falsehoods, emphasizing that the reports were made up to deceive the public.
“One cannot remain as one if they did not lie on the ground to plead or lobby for the position of governor,” he stated.
“Propaganda from a certain group is unnecessary because no one party has sole responsibility in a conflict.
Instead of begging, genuine reconciliation requires all sides to engage in dialogue and ground shifting.
“Ignore the lies of begging, even if you are mumu and don’t believe any of the lies you were told, even if they make you feel good or boost your camp’s pride.
“The growth of Rivers State depends on peace. Regardless of how modest you believe him to be, Governor Siminalayi Fubara is in a very good mood and is fervently dedicated to the peaceful development of Rivers State.
