The speaker of the Gombe State House of Assembly, Hon Muhammad Abubakar Luggerewo, said he is committed to promoting the use of Information Technology (IT) to enhance the efficiency of their legislative business.
The speaker made the remarks while fielding questions from newsmen during the opening session of the four-day retreat organised for members and principal officers of the Gombe State House of Assembly, held in Dutse, the capital of Jigawa State.
Hon Abubakar said the retreat theme was “Technology Adoption for Democracy Development and Promoting e-Legislative.” It was designed to acquaint the assembly members with the need to adopt IT to ensure consistent and effective legislative activities in the state.
“I am optimistic that leveraging the advantage of IT will help in strengthening our legislative duty, promoting democracy and efficient public service delivery,” Luggerewo stated.
The speaker thanked Jigawa State Governor Malam Umar Namadi for honouring them by attending the retreat’s opening session.
Hon. Abubakar also commended Governor Umar Namadi for operating a people-oriented government and delivering democracy dividends to Jigawa citizens’ doorsteps.
In his remarks, Jigawa State Governor Malam Umar Namadi said the retreat theme, “Technology Adoption for Democratic Development,” signifies the Gombe Assembly’s commitment to promoting transparency and accountability in democracy and governance in Nigeria.
He maintained that promoting digital adoption would simplify the legislative process, thereby paving the way for passing bills and enacting laws that will enhance the people’s security and social and economic wellbeing.
