As the Governorship Elections Petition Tribunal prepares to rule on Wednesday, there is a large presence of quick-response armed security personnel in and around Kano.
A public warning has already been made that everyone who has no business in the Bompai vicinity of the electoral tribunal should avoid the area.
A show of force was observed by the state’s combined military and police personnel.
The tribunal set September 20 as the date for its decision on the petition submitted by the All Progressive Congress (APC) challenging the election of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).
In a hearing notice submitted to the two parties on Monday, the tribunal established the date for the judgment.
While Kano remains calm and peaceful, APC and NNPP supporters are eagerly awaiting the tribunal’s decision.
Supporters of the ruling NNPP had been praying for God’s intervention in the outcome for a week.
Following alleged “unguided” statements against the tribunal’s justices, the state administration recently fired two appointed officials.
To avoid a breakdown in order, Kano State Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Usuani Gumel, summoned leaders of the two political parties to a peace meeting and urged them to accept the tribunal’s ruling in good faith and enable peace to rule in the state.
