A Cameroonian afrobeats and hip hop artiste, George Yungo, aka Big Hookz, has said that battling depression had an impact on shaping his musical outlook.

In a statement sent to Sunday Scoop, he said, “At one point, I was fighting depression, where everything just seemed to be crumbling. I lost a lot of my business dealings, and  I was down financially. However, that situation helped me to face myself, and I stayed close to God. It made me to go extremely hard in looking for ways of generating income, so I could go to the studio and record music with those experiences. Indeed, what I went through shaped my musical delivery. I learnt more about the music business, and the songs I released after that were successful.”

Yungo, who recently released a book titled, From the Music to the Money, stated that it was his way of sharing his experiences in the industry. He said, “The book is about me sharing my experiences as an artiste, manager and entrepreneur. It contains tips for aspiring artistes as regards navigating the industry.”

On what inspired the book, he said, “The inspiration came from me managing other artistes and realising the lack of experience and knowledge on the part of many artistes, as regards the intricacies of the music business.”

The singer also stated that he would like to work with artistes such as Angelique Kidjo, Koffi Olomide, 2Baba, Faze, Duncan Mighty, Burna Boy, Davido, and Olamide.
