The rearing and sales of livestock such as chicken and turkey can be rewarding, especially during Christmas and New Year festivities

While investing in turkey and chicken farming can be productive and give good investment returns, they also serve as meat and proteins. These modern turkey breeds are raised because of the maximum feed-to-meat conversion rate.

Business Capital/Profitability

With many hospitality and eatery outlets around the country, embarking on sales with an investment capital of N500, 000 for sales of these birds for this season will definitely yield positive results of which its profit can rise as high as N5million and above.

As chicken and turkey are proteinous meat which most family looks forward to consuming at Christmas and New Year celebrations, investing in it will yield good returns for investors.

On Christmas and New Year celebrations, most beef sellers get little personages as almost all celebrants see slaughtering of birds as tasks that should be done to fulfil the joy of the season. With high cost of living going above the reach of ordinary people, embarking on sales of birds can be a way of solving the hardship since two or two people can choose to share one bird.

Speaking with LEADERSHIP Weekend , Mrs Abibatu Oke , dealer, said: “Anyone who is interested in sales of any bird like Fowl or Turkey should first choose which type he or she wants to go into because you will pick which one to embark upon, if you want to embark on sales of the two brands.

“Then, you will need separate cages for them. Another thing to guide against is how to protect them and feed them properly during these periods. They eat a lot and they drink a lot of water or else one may end up in losing them inside the cages.”

Moreover, Oke said: “Investor can also go into frozen Fowl and Turkey. But for anyone to go into frozen chicken or turkey, such person must have the equipment like deep freezers and steady electricity.”
According to her, “another warning for first time seller is to take good care of those birds including the frozen ones as any of those live or frozen ones can lead to loss rather than expected gains.”
