The lawmaker representing Ifako-Ijaiye Constituency 01 at the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Adewale Temitope Adedeji, in his stride to bring succour to those battling eye defects, has granted 750 glasses and made provision for 50 free cataract surgeries for his constituents.
Just as the three-day outreach kicked off on Thursday at the Constituency’s Unity Centre office with the intent to improve eye health and the distribution of essential medications, 250 residents were attended to on Day 1 of the medical outreach.
Hon. Adedeji, who has been an advocate for accessible healthcare, emphasised the importance of vision health during his visit.
Speaking at the event, he stated, “Clear vision is crucial for every aspect of life, from education to daily tasks. By providing these glasses and surgeries, we aim to enhance the quality of life for our people.
“We initially penned the free cataract surgery for 20 people. However, based on the turnout and feedback from the ophthalmologists, we have decided to increase the number to 50 to accommodate more people.”
Consequently, those in need of corrective lenses received glasses on the spot, while individuals with cataracts were scheduled for surgery.
Meanwhile, medications for various eye conditions were distributed to ensure continued eye health.
Beneficiaries of the eyeglasses and surgery expressed their gratitude to the legislator for the programme.
Commenting, a recipient of the free cataract surgery, simply identified as Mrs Tinu, expressed her relief and appreciation.
“I had been struggling with my vision for years and couldn’t afford the surgery. This programme has given me a new lease of life,” she said.
Similarly, Hon. Adewale Temitope Adedeji also had his eyes checked as he was presented with a pair of medical glasses just as the three-day medical outreach continues on Friday and Saturday this week.
