The Lagos State Government has announced the launch of its new online tax platform, the Lagos Revenue Portal (LRP) scheduled for August 15, 2024.
The platform aims to simplify the tax payment process for both individual residents and corporate entities in the state.
Special Adviser to Governor Babatunde Sanwo-Olu on Taxation and Revenue, and the Executive Chairman of the Lagos State Internal Revenue Service (LIRS), Abdul-Kabir Ogungbo, unveiled the initiative during a media briefing in Lagos.
Ogungbo emphasised that the LRP would be launched by Governor Sanwo-Olu as part of the state’s ongoing efforts at improving the quality of life for its residents.
“This innovation is designed to simplify how Lagos residents and corporate entities perform their civic responsibilities in the form of tax payment, making the entire process more efficient, convenient, and secure,” Ogungbo said.
He said the LRP represents a significant leap forward in the state’s revenue collection efforts by offering a streamlined, user-friendly self-service portal that consolidates all tax-related activities into one platform.
According to Ogungbo, the portal will aggregate bills and payments across all ministries, departments, and agencies in Lagos State, creating a one-stop shop for all taxpayers.
Key features of the platform include the ability for residents to manage and print their bills from anywhere, make payments online through various channels such as card payments, bank transfers, and Point-of-sale (POS) systems, and receive instant revenue receipts after payments.
Additionally, the portal allows for amendment and reversal requests of payments and provides a comprehensive view of payment history.
Ogungbo highlighted that the LRP was part of the government’s broader strategy to enhance the overall experience of Lagos residents by offering prompt assistance and encouraging ease of doing business in the state.
“This e-tax platform for all tax payments managed by the Lagos Internal Revenue Service is another milestone,” he stated, adding, “It will streamline our collection process into a more friendly and accessible self-service portal, ultimately improving the efficiency of our revenue system.”
