The military high command yesterday received not less than 20 brand new Armoured Personnel Carriers (APCs) from the federal government with a view to fighting terrorists, bandits and other adversaries terrorising different regions in the country.

According to the military, the APCs, which are improved versions with improved weapons and communications systems that can locate adversaries from distance and engage them effectively, can allow seamless operations by the troops.

Speaking while handing over documents and the keys to the APCs to the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Christopher Musa, the Minister of Defence, Abubakar Badaru, said he was happy with the current synergy existing among the three services.

Badaru, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Ibrahim Kana, disclosed that the military equipment was produced and supplied by an indigenous company based in Nigeria.

The minister said the chairman of the company, Engr Kola Balogun, had earlier promised the government that the company would also train operators and provide after-purchase services like maintenance, spare parts, and repairs.

In his reaction, the defence chief pledged that the military would put the carriers to optimum and judicious use, adding that the machines would definitely boost the ongoing operations to rid the country of insecurity.
