Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, the interior minister, stated that he has observed numerous man-made obstacles when it comes to Nigerians changing their passport information.

The minister called the process married women must go through to alter data at the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) headquarters in Abuja a “stupid thing.”

The minister made these remarks during a luncheon in Abuja with representatives of the Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu ABAT Media Centre and a few prominent social media users.

According to Tunji-Ojo, women are not exposed to such cruel customs because of marriage anywhere in the globe.

“There is one dumb thing that I have witnessed: after being married and changing her name, a woman has to travel all the way from, say, Kaura Namoda or Enugu to Abuja in order to alter her name on her passport. It’s nonsensical.

“It’s not clear to me why you want to change merely your name and that Abuja is a must. I have inquired with the immigration officials: Do immigrants in Abuja have more than one head compared to those in the states? He enquired.
