Aloy Ejimakor, Special Counsel to IPOB Leader Nnamdi Kanu, has urged President Bola Tinubu not to inherit former President Muhammadu Buhari’s flagrant violation of the rule of law.

This statement was made by Ejimakor on Twitter on Monday, shortly after Tinubu was sworn in as President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Kanu’s lawyer asked Tinubu urgently to release the IPOB leader from the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS), saying he should not follow in the footsteps of his predecessor.

“Dear President Bola Tinubu,” Ejimakor wrote. I have a pressing request: Please release Mazi Nnamdi Kanu today or tomorrow. Don’t drag it out. Don’t take on Buhari’s misguided animus, hubris, and infamous contempt for the rule of law and Ndigbo. Set your own course. Thank you very much, sir!”

Kanu has been detained since June 2021, and the government has charged him with terrorism.

However, Kanu’s terrorism charge was dismissed by the Court of Appeal in Abuja. Kanu’s extradition from Kenya to Nigeria to face trial was ruled illegal by the appellate court.
