New details emerged yesterday regarding the death of Dr. Paul Akintelure, a prominent governorship aspirant of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State, with his younger brother, Oladapo Akintelure, stating that his death was not natural.

Akintelure, a medical doctor vying for the governorship ticket of the APC, was confirmed dead in the early hours of Tuesday.

According to sources, the APC governorship aspirant passed away in Lagos after previously raising an alarm over a “serious threat” to his life.

Speaking to reporters, Oladapo Akintelure revealed that the deceased had been suffering from various illnesses before his demise.

“He had been complaining of sudden illnesses such as headaches, back pain, and chest pains for the past 12 or 14 days. He was admitted to a hospital after being advised to take an urgent break from his campaign to focus on his health,” said the younger brother.

Expressing disbelief, Oladapo suggested foul play in his brother’s death, describing it as unfortunate and unexpected.

“As a family member, I would not want to say much for now because it is still a shocking moment for us. This is not ordinary, but it is unfortunate that we lost him at this critical time.”

The family, in a statement, described Dr. Akintelure as a visionary leader who believed in the state’s potential and advocated for positive change. They called for calm and prayers, asking for the repose of his soul.

Meanwhile, the state governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has expressed shock and devastation at the news of the APC governorship aspirant’s death.

Governor Aiyedatiwa described Akintelure as a wonderful human being and a core progressive, noting his consistency and loyalty to progressive politics in Ondo State and Nigeria.

“He was a friend and associate. He conducted his private business and public affairs with so much decorum and humility, much to the admiration of many. We have lost a complete gentleman. He will be greatly missed,” the governor said.

Governor Aiyedatiwa added that the timing of Akintelure’s death was saddening and prayed for the repose of his soul.
