Police accuse man of stealing more than N12m

Kehinde Adewumi, also known as “Hunter,” was accused of carrying out an armed robbery in the Mushin region of the state by the Lagos State Police Command on Friday.

The 33-year-old defendant was charged with three counts of robbery and armed robbery before Magistrate Nwaka.

At gunpoint, Stanley Nwabuwa was allegedly robbed in Mushin in 2022 by Adewumi and some of his gang members. They allegedly took his valuables, including his ATM card, which they allegedly used to withdraw N12.2 million.

Adewunmi allegedly received N1.4 million from a Point of Sales agent as payment for his share of the theft after the robbery.

According to the prosecution, when the police approached the POS agent, she could only identify Adewumi as the money’s recipient, leading to the defendant’s arrest.

Holding a brief for ASP Adebeshin Shamsudeen, the prosecutor, Thomas Nurudeen, informed the court that Adewumi had committed the crime on May 18, 2022, at No. 8, Abolarin Street, Mushin, Lagos.

The offenses, according to Nurudeen, violated and were sanctioned by Sections 411 and 328 of the Lagos, Nigeria, Criminal Laws of 2015.

That you, Kehinde Adewumi, aka “Hunter,” conspired with another person to commit a felony, namely robbery, on May 18, 2022, at No. 8 Abolarin Street, Mushin, Lagos, in the Lagos Magisterial District, and that act was punishable under Section 411 of the Criminal Laws Of Lagos, Nigeria, 2015, was part of the charge.

But the defendant entered a not guilty plea.

His bail was set at N3 million with three sureties by Magistrate Nwaka.

He postponed the proceeding until July 31, 2023.
