Operatives of the Rivers State Police Command have arrested five suspected members of a ‘one-change’ robbery syndicate comprising three (3) females and two (2) males in Port Harcourt, the state capital.
Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, Grace Iringe-Koko said the suspects were arrested after robbing their victim, a female, within the Eastern by-pass axis of the state capital.
Iringe-Koko gave the names of the suspects as 45-year-old Ifeanyi Ugo, a male; Paulina Ibe, female, 45; Nneka Precious Sunday, female, 30; Christopher Ibe, male, 31; and 48-year-old Oyinyechi Ibe, a female.
The Rivers State police image maker said the operational vehicle used by the syndicate, a green Volkswagen Vento saloon car with registration number ANAMBRA FGG 40 AA has also been recovered.
Iringe-Koko explained that the Surveillance Patrol Team attached to the Hyper City Unit of the Command, on 28th of January, 2025 at about 7pm, while on patrol along NLNG Road, Eastern Bypass, Port Harcourt, received a distress call from the victim (name withheld).
She added that the victim, a resident of Federal Housing Estate, Trans-Amadi, reported that her phone had been stolen by the occupants of the vehicle.
The PPRO said preliminary investigation is ongoing, stressing that the suspects and the recovered vehicle are currently in police custody.
She assured that the Rivers State Police Command remains committed to tackling the menace of “One Chance” criminals who disguise themselves as tricycle and taxi operators to rob unsuspecting passengers.
