The reappointment of a new permanent secretary to the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has reportedly delighted staff members.

President Bola Tinubu has received praise from the employees, primarily the senior personnel, for listening to their grievances.

Additionally, they expressed gratitude to Nyesom Wike, the minister of the Federal Capital Territory, for his prompt involvement that resulted in the posting’s reversal, calling it “uncalled for, unlawful, and inimical to the powers of the President who has already approved creation of the FCT Civil Service Commission.”

This was revealed over the weekend in an interview with some media in Abuja by the employees operating under the auspices of the League of Retired and Serving FCTA Directors.

They praised the President and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory for their unwavering commitment to enacting comprehensive reforms that would realign the Administration, enhance employee satisfaction, increase output, and guarantee efficient public service delivery.

Speaking on behalf of the staff, League Chairman Lukeman Oramosele noted that the two “have been able to achieve so much in human, institutional, and physical development of the nation’s capital” in a matter of months.

He emphasized that all project sites that had previously been abandoned were now brimming with construction activity since the present minister took office.

“It is obvious we are in for good times and better days, not just as staff -serving or retired, but also contractors handling FCTA or Federal Government projects in the FCT are happy because they are working and money is coming non-stop,” Oramosele said, expressing hope for a brighter Federal Capital Territory and Nigeria.

“We can see and feel hope, even in the face of challenges; the captain of the ship is steering us away from the storms and into calm waters.”

Recall that the Head of the Federation’s Civil Service, Dr. Magdalene Ajani, was recently assigned to the FCTA as the new Permanent Secretary.

Olusade Adesola, the Permanent Secretary in place at the time, is scheduled to retire on May 29, 2024, and she was to take her place.

Employees of the FCT Administration reportedly organized a protest against her posting as soon as it was made public, pointing out that the job is not covered by the President’s recent approval of the FCT Civil Service Commission’s formation.

A forum for exchanging experiences on enhancing service delivery between FCTA senior staff and their retired colleagues is the League of Retired and Serving FCTA Directors.
