Former governor of Akwa Ibom Godswill Akpabio and his group of senators met with governor of Rivers State Nyesom Wike.
The meeting reportedly took place at Governor Wike’s home in Abuja, according to sources.
Recall that the All Progressives Congress (APC) had Akpabio on its list of candidates for Senate President. Akpabio had previously held the position of Minister of Niger Delta Affairs. Additionally, Barau Jibrin was suggested as the Deputy Senate President candidate.
According to rumours, Governor Wike has endorsed Akpabio’s bid for the Senate majority leader position. This action is anticipated to influence senators-elect from Rivers State to vote in Akpabio’s favour.
Although a member of the opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Governor Wike has developed relationships with Bola Tinubu, a significant APC figure.
Following Wike’s disagreement with Atiku Abubakar, the PDP’s nominee for president in the recently concluded 2023 elections, this relationship has grown.
