Senator Victor Umeh has been described as an embodiment of patriotism, a transformational leader and credible voice in the East of the Niger who takes a stand on crucial national issues in the quest for a strong, virile, stable, progressive and egalitarian democratic nation.

This observation was made by a Public Affairs Analyst, Dr Chijioke Nduka, in a statement congratulating the Senator representing Anambra Central Senatorial District on his 62nd birthday, saying indeed Nigerians knew where Umeh stands on issues that concern the development of the country.

“Born on July 19, 1962, Umeh has been the voice of the voiceless in Nigeria. A former National Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, he served in the 8th Senate on the party’s platform. Currently, he is the Chairman, Senate Committee on Diaspora and Non- Governmental Organisations, and serves in Committees on Air Force, Establishment and Public Service, Agriculture Production Services and Rural Development, Education, Employment and Productivity, Federal Capital Territory, Industry, Land Transport, National Security and Intelligence, Rules and Business, Science and Technology, Agriculture Colleges and Institutions, and Ecology and Climate Change where he contributes in making laws for the good of the country, in revamping the economy and redirecting the ship of the nation from its perilous course to the path of rectitude, progress and advancement,” he said.

He described Umeh as a visionary leader set out to make a difference in the 10th Senate and deliver fruits of democracy to his constituency in fulfilment of his campaign promises to continue to stand strong to defend and protect the rights of Anambra Central Senatorial District, offer scholarship to brilliant less privileged students to enable them obtain university education, attract and ensure honest execution of constituency projects as obtainable in the 8th Senate, participate in the restructuring of Nigeria debate, a major legislative agenda of the 10th Senate, and ensuring the restoration of the dignity of Anambra Central Senatorial District through vibrant, bold and courageous representation.

He said the lawmaker is also committed to sponsoring motions and bills that will address the plight of the people and continue to champion the cause for equity, inclusiveness and fairness in all activities of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, adding that he is a staunch advocate of local government autonomy as the government closest to the people.

The statement read in part, “A bright comet in Nigeria’s political horizon, Umeh maximizes every office he holds to touch and add flavour to numerous lives and empower them to fulfill their destinies. In the words of Bill Gates, ‘As we look ahead into the next century, leaders will be those who empower others.’ He has mentored many youths who now hold various political, corporate and academic positions at all levels of governments, justifying Plato when he said, ‘The measure of a man is what he does with power.’

“Elected on the platform of Labour Party, Umeh is a dogged fighter for what he believes in, particularly electoral integrity and sanctity of the ballot box. It is obvious that flawed elections produced incompetent leaders since independence in 1960 whose actions and inaction impeded sustainable democracy and development in Nigeria.

“It is hoped that the ongoing constitutional amendments will further consolidate and deepen the nation’s electoral system where every vote will be counted and count in the overall result and the mandate of the people respected by all stakeholders.”
