Ashleigh Plumptre, a defender for the Super Falcons, has joined Saudi Arabia’s Al-Ittihad Ladies after leaving Leicester City Women on a free transfer.
The 25-year-old was one of the prominent Nigerian players as a result of their outstanding performance at the FIFA Women’s World Cup in 2023. She participated in all of the Falcons’ games and assisted Nigeria in advancing to the round of 16.
The Nigerian star commented on the announcement video posted on Tuesday by Al-Ittihad Ladies on X, formerly Twitter, saying, “Grateful to have signed for Al-Ittihad. excited to go on this journey with some amazing people. I’m still working on becoming more authentic. It’s not just football.
She remarked, “Football for me is about connecting not only with myself but with people around me, whether my teammates or staff,” to the club’s media in the announcement video.
“Everything I have accomplished in my professional life thus far has involved achieving something bigger than myself.
“New opportunities off the field and on it attracted me to Al Ittihad. I’m not in this with any expectations; I’m just here to be.
“I hope that, both as a football player and, more importantly, as a person, I can learn and take so much from the environment.”
Prior to leaving the team at the end of the previous season, Plumptre played in 79 games for Leicester Women.
