On Friday, President Bola Tinubu expressed his condolences to former President Goodluck Jonathan on the passing of his sister, Obebhatein Jonathan.

“President Tinubu condoles with Dr. Goodluck Jonathan over sister’s passing,” said the statement that Tinubu sent, which was signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale.

Obebhatein, also known as Amissi, was a mother, grandmother, businesswoman, and teacher.

She passed away at the Federal Medical Centre in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State on Thursday, January 11, 2024, following a brief illness, according to Jonathan’s media office. She was 70 years old.

The statement said, in part, “She was a devout Christian, a virtuous woman, and a role model to many within and outside her community.”

It further revealed that the burial had been arranged for Tuesday, February 16, 2024, adding that the family would publish the details of the funeral ceremonies.

The legacy of Amissi, who devoted her life to serving God and humanity, is something Tinubu urged Jonathan to find comfort in.

He prayed for the deceased’s soul to rest in peace and for solace for everyone grieving this terrible loss.

Mama Eunice Afeni-Jonathan, Obebhatein’s mother, and her three children, including Jonathan, survive her.
