The names of the newly acknowledged members of the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) National Working Committee (NWC) have been posted on the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) official website.
Along with other members of the party’s national leadership, these include Samuel Anyanwu as National Secretary and Abdulrahman Mohammed as National Chairman.
At the PDP National Convention, which took place late last night in Abuja, Abdulrahman and Anyanwu were both chosen. However, the event has since caused controversy because of accusations and counterclaims made by opposing groups within the party.
The development comes after disagreements over the convention, with various factions disputing the validity of the results.
Observers are interpreting INEC’s update as a major step that could indicate acceptance of the list given to the electoral body.
The action coincides with the PDP’s ongoing internal strife, as certain stakeholders are allegedly pursuing legal action to resolve the leadership problem that arose during the convention.
The PDP is anticipated to continue navigating internal issues around its leadership structure as Nigeria gets closer to the upcoming general elections.
