Rotimi Amaechi, a former Minister of Transportation and Governor of Rivers State, says that a lot of Nigerians want to vote President Bola Tinubu out of office in 2027.
He said this on Friday while on Channels Television.
Amaechi, who was on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief show on Friday, said that things were getting worse in the economy and that people were having a harder time across the country.
The ex-minister said, “Everyone is in pain, and everyone is looking for food.” People can’t buy gas or travel. The airlines are threatening to raise the price of travel, and everything else is going up too.
“For the love of God, President Tinubu has no right to speak. He promised power and told people not to vote for him if he didn’t give it to them. People in Nigeria are waiting to vote him out.
He also said that religion and ethnicity played a role in Nigeria’s political choices and that these factors were to blame for the current situation.
Amaechi, on the other hand, has said that he doesn’t agree with the idea of choosing the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate for the 2027 election by consensus.
But he also said that he is ready to support whoever ends up being the ADC presidential candidate. He would rather the party hold a primary election.
Amaechi made his point clear in response to a statement made earlier by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, who said that the ADC would first look into the possibility of choosing its flagbearer through a consensus.
He said, “I’ll back him if he wins, but I don’t agree with those who say he’s the consensus candidate.” Let’s go out and meet the people. They can choose who they want to be in the party.
“There has to be a primary election in the ADC.” People who say there should be a consensus candidate are wrong.
Amaechi said that zoning is an internal process of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and should not be binding in modern times. This is in response to the zoning agreement between the North and South.
The former Governor also said that being younger than the other candidates for president gives him an edge because the job needs someone who is still capable.
“Atiku is very qualified to be president of Nigeria. He has the right to run, but he should know that this zoning thing is a PDP thing. I don’t agree with this south, north, whatever. What I do agree with is that the most qualified candidate should be allowed to govern or be elected.
“I’m the youngest person running for office right now; I’m 60. The others are all in their 70s. He said, “This thing needs capacity.”
