The Allied Conservative Congress, ACC, has said it is on a rescue mission to save Nigeria from self-seeking politicians masquerading as democrats.
The political movement said that national interest should at all times supersede partisan politics and personal aggrandizement.
The National Chairman, Rev. Olusegun Peters, made this known at the National Executive Committee, NEC, meeting of the ACC in Abuja on Thursday.
ACC noted that the state of the nation at this point is very bad, with patriotism lacking in most leaders and citizens, adding that the ship of the Nigeria state is drifting.
Peters noted that there is the desire to change from the illusive progressivism that impedes the nation’s democracy to conservatism that will foster unity, equity, morality, security and prosperity.
“ACC is on a rescue mission to save Nigeria from self-seeking politicians masquerading as democrats. National interest should at all times supersede partisan politics and personal aggrandizement,” he added.
He urged the judiciary to sit up and discharge its statutory duties without fear or favour as the temple of justice and the last hope of all aggrieved people bearing in mind that justice is not for sale to the highest bidder.
“It is unfortunate that Nigerians’ confidence in the Judiciary has been eroding in the recent past due to frequent miscarriage of justice, issuance of orders and counter orders, judgements and conflicting judgements by courts of coordinate jurisdiction, thus making mockery of the administration of justice in Nigeria.
“The urgent need to overhaul the Judiciary cannot be overemphasized. An unbiased Judiciary is critical for sustainable democracy. Judicial officers must be firm and above board in upholding the rule of law as so much is required of them in strengthening, deepening and consolidating the nation’s democracy.
“A departure from the current progressivism, corruption, poverty, terrorism, insurgency, banditry, militancy, secession, kidnapping for ransom and ritual killings that have plagued the country and dampened our moral values. The need for a conservative leadership cannot be overemphasized.
“It takes political will to fight corruption and insecurity in the country and restore sanity in the polity. Nigeria is the only country we have, we must join hands and salvage it together.”
