Kylian Mbappe, a Paris Saint-Germain star, struck an agreement two weeks ago that will see him join Real Madrid on July 1.

According to an article published on Monday by Spanish publication MARCA, the French striker has already signed a 5-year contract with the Spanish giants, which will take effect on July 1.

The 25-year-old’s arrival to the Bernabeu has been one of the longest-running transfer storylines in recent memory. When Mbappé first emerged as a teenager at Monaco in 2017, Real Madrid expressed interest in him.

On February 15, Mbappe informed officials at Paris Saint-Germain that he wanted to leave when his contract expires at the end of the season, according to a source close to the Ligue 1 winners.

The 25-year-old, who joined PSG from Monaco in 2017, had his contract extended in 2022 until 2024, but last summer declined to activate a condition that would have allowed him to stay another year.

Mbappe has been heavily linked with a move to Real Madrid, and according to a source close to the situation, he has already begun negotiations with the Spanish club.

“The terms of the departure have yet to be fully agreed,” the source stated, adding that the club and Mbappe will issue an official statement “when everything is finalised in the next few months.”

However, MARCA’s magazine on Monday stated that “Kylian Mbappe and Real Madrid have an agreement, signed two weeks ago, and as of July 1, the French striker will become a brand new player of the white team, as MARCA has been able to confirm.”

“When the player informed PSG last Tuesday that he would be leaving the club on June 30, he asked not to be presented with any new extension offers.

“The reason was that he had already signed the deal that would bind him to Real Madrid for five seasons, as had been speculated in Paris for some time.

“At that point, PSG was already more interested in its star player fulfilling the commitment agreed in the summer to waive a very significant amount, the third installment of the loyalty bonus, to allow him to rejoin the first team.”

Even though PSG and Real Madrid have yet to make formal comments about the player, there are still questions about his future.
