Truck driver escapes death in Lagos auto crash

A yet-to-be-identified truck driver had a brush with death in a fatal accident involving his vehicle and a trailer at the Old Abeokuta Road by Isokoko, in the Agege Local Government Area of Lagos.

PUNCH Metro gathered on Thursday that a low bed truck rammed into a nearby pedestrian bridge after the incident and the driver was seriously injured in the process.

The spokesperson for Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, Adebayo Taofiq, confirmed the incident to our correspondent and attributed the crash to a brake failure.

Taofiq noted that the crashed truck had been removed from the accident spot to ensure free traffic flow, while the victim was taken to the hospital for medical attention.

“It was an accident that occurred very early in the morning around 5am. It was an accident between a low bed truck and a trailer. The low bed truck later crashed into the pedestrian bridge after colliding with a trailer due to brake failure. The driver of the low bed truck sustained serious injuries and was rushed to hospital.

“The accident happened at the Old Abeokuta Road by Isokoko inward Pen Cinema (Total). LASTMA personnel evacuated the low bed truck as early as possible to enable free vehicular movement around the area. Security personnel from Isokoko supported by providing security backup during the evacuation process.

“The Special Adviser to the Governor of Lagos State on Transportation, Sola Giwa, sympathised with the injured driver and enjoined truck owners/ driver to always carry out a routine check on their vehicles before driving them on any of the roads around Lagos,” he said.
