A driver narrowly escaped death after his vehicle overturned in the Alakija area of Mile 2, Lagos State, on Wednesday.
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority spokesperson, Adebayo Taofiq, confirmed the incident in a statement obtained by PUNCH Metro on Wednesday.
He noted that the accident occurred when the vehicle veered off the road at high speed, reportedly due to brake failure.
Taofiq said the swift response of LASTMA officials and other security agencies at the scene led to the rescue of the driver, who escaped the accident without injury.
“The accident occurred after the vehicle veered off the road at high speed due to brake failure.
“LASTMA’s quick intervention, in collaboration with security agencies, helped prevent what could have been a catastrophic situation,” Taofiq said.
In response to the incident, the General Manager of LASTMA, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, urged motorists to adhere to speed limits and ensure their vehicles are properly maintained before heading onto the road.
“This incident highlights the critical importance of regular vehicle maintenance and cautious driving,” Bakare-Oki emphasised.
PUNCH Metro had on Wednesday reported that a fatal accident occurred on Tuesday when a minibus driver rammed into a truck driver in the CMS area of Lagos.
The truck driver, according to Taofiq, had stopped to attend to a mechanical fault when the speeding minibus collided with him, leading to his immediate death.
