Two suspects, Garba Audu, also known as “Youth Leader of APC,” and Kabiru Abubakar, both residents of Laying Arfa, Gombe State, were on Tuesday paraded by the state police command for buying beans with counterfeit money.
According to the victim, Idris Usman, the suspects stopped him on his way to Lariski market, carrying two bags of beans on his Bajaj motorcycle, and negotiated to buy the beans for N210,000.
However, when the victim discovered that the money was counterfeit, he raised an alarm, leading to the arrest of the suspects.
Parading the suspects on Tuesday, the Police Public Relations Officer, Gombe State Command, ASP Buhari Abdullahi, said during interrogation, the suspects confessed to the crime and alleged that they obtained the counterfeit money from one Abdullahi, alias “Manci,” of Potiskum Local Government Area, Yobe State, who is now at large.
“The suspects were arrested, and their vehicle was searched. We recovered two bags of beans and N39,000 suspected to be counterfeit.
“The suspects will be charged to court upon conclusion of the investigation,” he added.
Abdullahi appreciated the efforts of the public in providing useful information that led to the arrest of the suspects.
“We appreciate your time and attention today. Please feel free to reach out if you have any further questions or require additional information,” he said.
