To investigate the serious charges made against Senate President Godswill Akpabio by Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun has appointed a special team.
Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan reportedly accused Akpabio and former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello of conspiring to kill her.
The Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi, were copied in Akpabio’s April 3 plea to the IGP.
To maintain peace and secure his safety, the Senate President called the senator’s remarks “defamatory” and urged authorities to take legal action.
The Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, confirmed the development to The Nation, saying that the IGP has already taken action on the appeal.
“Yes, the petition from Godswill Akpabio, the Senate President, has been received. According to Adejobi, the IGP has instructed a team to look into it.
The senator said in a homecoming speech to her supporters on April 1 that the purported plot to remove her was the result of an unsuccessful attempt to have her recall from the Senate started.

She informed the audience that she had filed an official police complaint before making her allegations public.
On March 13 at 10:00 p.m., Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan was quoted as saying: “Remember, two days prior to that, Akpabio had called Governor Ododo to start my recall, but Ododo informed him it would not be feasible.” “The masses are with me, so the recall will not be possible,” Ododo informed Akpabio. Akpabio, however, summoned Yahaya Bello because he was not happy. Everyone told me about it.
It was a two-part meeting. He was instructed to start my recall and promised to provide the funding. He said that he ought to try to murder me as his second statement. Although I had written to the Inspector General of Police, I did not make this public.
According to the senator, Akpabio advised Yahaya Bello to ensure that the murder of me did not take place in Abuja but rather here, making it appear as though the murderers were locals.
