BREAKING: ICPC Takes El-Rufai Back into Custody

Following proceedings in two Kaduna courts on Tuesday, Nasir El-Rufai, the former governor of Kaduna State, was returned to the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offenses Commission (ICPC).

Days after the former governor was momentarily freed from detention, this development occurred.

El-Rufai had already been released from ICPC custody on March 27, 2026, after his mother passed away.

However, as the court proceedings in the cases against him started on Tuesday, he was re-arraigned.

Due to a different accusation brought by the anti-graft agency, the former governor initially appeared before the Kaduna State High Court.

However, the absence of the second defendant in the case caused the court proceedings to stall.

As a result, the case was postponed until April 10, 2026.

El-Rufai was brought to the Federal High Court in Kaduna after the adjournment, where his bail plea was set to be heard.

The court had previously scheduled the bail application hearing for March 31, 2026.

Following the court hearings, the former governor was placed back under ICPC custody while the cases were being handled.
