IGP takes ‘Operation RP’ to Rivers, assures safe south-south
THE Acting Inspector General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba, today, launched the new special security action plan, “OPERATION RP” in the South-South region of the country.
The operation, which was first initiated in Enugu yesterday, was flagged-off at the Sharks Football Stadium, Port-Harcourt.

According to the statement, Baba Usman said the move is in continuation of the implementation process of the special operation in the country which will help curtail the tide of violent attacks and breakdown of law and order in the South South.
He noted that there were threats to lives and property occasioned by the secessionists activities of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and the Eastern Security Network (ESN).
The IGP, therefore, condemned the increased cases of kidnapping, armed robbery, cult-related violence, economic sabotage and other threats to public safety bedeviling the region.
He, however, assured citizens of their safety, adding that peace will be restored to the region
In his remarks, Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, represented by His Deputy, affirmed the zero tolerance of the State Government to crimes and criminality in Rivers State.
He commended the IGP for the initiative and pledged support of the State Government to the success of “Operation Restore Peace” in the State, the South-South region and the country at large.
