On Sunday, President Bola Tinubu declared that in addition to other economic changes, his administration will keep enacting further palliative measures to lessen the spiralling pain brought on by the elimination of the petrol subsidy and the unification of the currency rate.

In addition, he pledged to set Nigeria on a course for “irreversible progress” soon.

In his first Christmas address to Nigerians as president, Tinubu reaffirmed, “My administration will continue to implement palliative measures to ease the burden on the most vulnerable, address current hardships, and alleviate the suffering of all our nation’s people.”

The President remarked in a statement issued by the State House that he personally signed.

“Colleagues from Nigeria, For all of us, Christmas is a unique time of year. Christians commemorate the birth of Jesus Christ at this time of year, as well as the hope and redemption that typify his life.

This is a time for people of all religions to celebrate life, spend time with family, and appreciate the blessings of friendship and love that make life meaningful.

This is also a time to watch out for one another since, despite the celebrations, many people will be experiencing sadness during this time of year. Some will be grieving the loss of loved ones, while others will be lamenting the hopes and dreams that did not come true.

The President stated that “our country has been through a period of transformation and relentless change” during the first half of his presidency.

“I am aware that the necessary reforms we are implementing have imposed unique sacrifices in order to achieve a more prosperous, peaceful nation for all,” the speaker stated.

As he leads the country “to stability, prosperity, and Renewed Hope,” Tinubu urged people to “hold fast and rest assured” of his pledge to “govern with vision, dedication, and empathy.”

“Be assured that we will soon emerge into a new dawn of prosperity, peace, and irreversible progress by the strength of our joint endeavour,” he continued.

Additionally, Tinubu asked Nigerians to show generosity to those in need by wrapping themselves in a warm embrace in the spirit of Christmas and modelling themselves after the best qualities of Jesus Christ.

He gave advice, saying, “…and let the numerous acts of kindness serve as a light that guides us into a happy and wonderful new year.”

Along with pleading that “God protects them and brings them back to their families,” the Nigerian leader also requested people to “please spare a moment of remembrance and prayer for the men and women of our nation’s armed forces, bearing arms in our names and ensuring our safety.”

Tinubu urged people to “commemorate the memory of those who, in their service, have paid the highest price for our nation” ahead of the Armed Forces Remembrance Day on January 15. May God console their families and loved ones and bless their souls.

He prayed that as 2023 comes to an end and a new year dawns, the light of Christmas leads every Nigerian.

“I hope everyone has a wonderful Christmas,” he said.
