The programme of events for the February 3, 2024 bye-elections, which have been declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission, has been made public by the Labour Party leadership.

The party’s National Working Committee also advised the public to ignore the widely circulated schedule that some expelled members allegedly released.

This development occurs just twenty-four hours after the Peoples Democratic Party and the ruling All Progressives Congress certified theirs in accordance with the electoral process.

According to reports, INEC authorised a schedule for holding bye-elections in the event that members of the National and State Houses of Assembly resigned or passed away.

The Labour Party’s National Secretary, Umar Farouk, revealed in an Abuja message that the party leadership set the nomination form costs for the Senate at N3.5 million, the House of Representatives at N2 million, and the House of Assembly at N500,000.

Farouk added that the deadline for submitting completed forms is January 4, 2024, and that sales of the nomination, expression of interest, and delegate forms would start on December 28, 2023, and stop on January 4, 2024.

On January 7, 2024, there will be primary elections. The announcement stated that those living with disabilities and female candidates are excluded from paying costs for the Expression of Interest Forms alone.

“The proper accounts belonging to the party and other vital information regarding the coming elections will be made available to the aspirants and members of the public,” the statement continued, “can be obtained at the office of the National Organising Secretary, National Headquarters in Utako, Abuja.”

We implore candidates to put the project at hand before their nuisance value. We further caution these fading villains to look for another venue on which to sell their wares, since Nigerians are already aware of their despicable ruse that has long since run its course.
