College students of tertiary establishments in Imo State have taken to the streets to protest the excessive price of dwelling, excessive charges, poor training, poor infrastructure, poor amenities, extortion and intimidation of their numerous establishments.
The scholars urged the Federal and State Governments to cease frequent hikes of their tuition charges in addition to undue extortion by handouts in addition to textbooks.
They appealed to the federal government to supply conducive studying environments and set up medical gear and amenities reminiscent of electrical energy and boreholes, amongst others, for improved high quality training and ethical values.
The protesters made up of scholars from the Federal College of Know-how Owerri, FUTO, Imo State College Owerri, IMSU, Alvan Ikoku Federal College of Training Owerri, Federal Polytechnic Nekede Owerri and Imo State College of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences, UAES, Umuagwo, Ohaji.
Additionally they decried the excessive price of dwelling, faculty charges and scholar lodging in addition to the hardship in Imo State, which they mentioned is occasioned by the federal government’s unhealthy financial coverage, poor infrastructure and unemployment.
They urged the federal government to make people-oriented insurance policies to alleviate struggling, starvation and poverty confronted by college students.
Vice President, Nationwide Affiliation of Nigerian College students, NANS, Valentine Nzubechi, who addressed the protesters, reassured that the Federal and State governments would adhere to their plights and requests to boost high quality training.
