The Muslim Ummah of South West Nigeria (MUSWEN) has endorsed Senator Godswill Akpabio, a Christian second-term Senator representing Akwa Ibom North West Senatorial District in the upcoming 10th National Assembly, for the position of Senate President.
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has already backed the senator for the position in the 10th National Assembly.
Professor Muslih Tayo Yahya, executive secretary of MUSWEN, stated that the decision was made to have an inclusive zoning arrangement ahead of the inauguration of the 10th National Assembly leadership.
According to MUSWEN, this reassuring move comes at a time when some sections of the polity are already worried about the Muslim-Muslim presidency.
“The audacious move has the potential to further unite Nigeria across tribal and religious lines.”The Muslim Ummah of South West Nigeria (MUSWEN), the umbrella body for all Muslim organizations and Muslim interests in the South West of Nigeria, hereby lends its support to this Christian South-South Senate Presidency agenda, which is a very laudable and progressive move capable of engendering peace and national cohesion.
“We take this opportunity to urge well-meaning Nigerians to rally behind President-elect Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Vice President-elect Senator Kashim Shettima in their difficult task of taking Nigeria to new heights.”
