Tinubu appoints Folashodun Shonubi acting CBN Governor

Mr Folashodun Adebisi Shonubi has been appointed as the acting Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria by President Bola Tinubu.

Shonubi’s appointment came after the suspension of CBN Governor Godwin Emefiele on Friday.

He was the Deputy Governor, Operations Directorate, prior to his appointment.

Tinubu’s media aide, Bayo Onanuga, revealed this in a post on his Twitter handle on Friday.

“Folashodun Adebisi Shonubi is the CBN acting governor,” he wrote. He has been the Deputy Governor, Operations Directorate, since October 2018. He was born on March 7th, 1962. From 1978 to 1983, he attended the University of Lagos and earned a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering. He also represents the CBN on the FIRS board.”

According to reports, Emefiele has been directed to immediately hand over the affairs of his office to the Deputy Governor (Operations Directorate), who will act as the Central Bank Governor until the investigation and reforms are completed.
