Osun State’s Ekosin town’s ruling house members have pleaded with governor Ademola Adeleke not to give Kasali Olagunju, the town’s new Akosin, the Staff of Office.
Adegboyega Oyetola, the governor of Osun State immediately prior, appointed Olagunju.
However, as soon as Adeleke assumed power, she prevented Oyetola’s chosen monarchs from posing as royal fathers after he was defeated in the July 2022 governorship race.
However, following the submission of the report by the government committee that investigated some of Oyetola’s chieftaincy appointments, the new Akosin was permitted to hold onto his position.
Kabiru Adewale, a spokesman for the demonstrators at the Government Secretariat in Abere, pleaded with Adeleke to let the court make a decision on the disputes pertaining to the Akosin Chieftaincy dispute.
“Oyesoji, Oyerinde, and Niniola are the three Ruling Houses from which Akosin is selected,” he declared. However, Kasali Olagunju is not a member of any of these Houses. He is therefore unfit to hold the title of Akosin.
“As it is the turn of Niniola Ruling House to present a candidate for the stool, we beg the government to not allow anyone to oppress us.”
However, in response to the demonstrators’ assertion in a statement on Saturday, Mr. Yemi Abiona, the attorney for the Ekosin kingmakers, refuted the demonstrators’ assertions.
“The election, selection, and appointment of Oba Kasali Omotayo Olagunju on November 13, 2022, was met with great celebration within the Nyabilolu Ruling House and throughout the town of Ekosin,” he stated.
“Several groups in the town have celebrated the establishment of an Akosin of Ekosin, and they are excitedly anticipating the governor of Osun State, Senator (Dr.) Ademola Nurudeen Jackson Adeleke, to take office and introduce his staff.
“On behalf of all the Traditional Chiefs of Ekosin, we hereby urge the State Government and the good people of the State to disregard the flagrant lies being spread by this disgruntled minority in Nyanbilolu Ruling House. They have since filed two cases in the Osun State High Court, Ikirun, pertaining to the same chieftaincy, under the cases HIK/42/2022 and HIK/46/2022.”
