Ogun mechanic shot dead, police hunt suspected killers

An auto mechanic named Abdullahi Lawal was reportedly shot and killed by unidentified gunmen in the Sasure community, located in the Idi-Oke Igebesa in Ado-Odo Ota Local Government of Ogun State.

Our correspondent learnt on Wednesday that Lawal was allegedly shot on Tuesday by two suspected attackers who entered the community on a motorcycle.

The Ogun State Police Command confirmed the incident in an exclusive statement to our correspondent on Wednesday.

PUNCH Metro learnt that the incident, which occurred around 11:00 p.m., briefly caused panic among the residents, prompting them to lock themselves in their homes out of fear for their safety.

The command’s spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, informed our correspondent that two community residents contacted the Idi-Oke Division Police, reporting that Lawal had been shot dead by the assailants.

The 45-year-old auto repairman was reportedly returning from his workshop when he got off at the Sasure Bus Stop and crossed the road. At that moment, an assailant on a motorcycle allegedly shot him dead.

She said, “Two members of the community, who were friends of the deceased, informed the men about the incident. The victim was reportedly returning from his workshop when the suspects allegedly shot him in the head.

“Upon arriving at the scene, we found the victim unconscious, lying in a pool of blood with gunshot wounds to the head. Additionally, we recovered around eight empty shell casings.

“He was immediately transported to a nearby hospital, where the doctor on duty confirmed his death. The family has requested the release of the body for burial by Islamic rites. A large-scale manhunt for the suspected killers has been launched.”

PUNCH Metro reported a similar murder on Wednesday, detailing how a fisherman named Segun Sikiru was brutally killed by five assailants, who have since been arrested by the state police command in Iwopin Town, located in the Ijebu-Ode Local Government Area.

The incident occurred when the suspects allegedly attacked the deceased with a bamboo stick and discarded his body in a lagoon in the community.

The five suspects, all members of the community —Saheed Mureni, Afeez Mureni, Saheed Taidi, Thompson Samuel, and Ogoji Olorunwa— were apprehended by operatives of the Abigi Police Division on Sunday, September 29, 2024.
