39 passengers lost their lives in car accidents in Niger, Bauchi, Kebbi

On Monday, a deadly motor accident on the Bida-Mokwa Road in Niger State claimed the lives of no less than 24 people.

This occurred as tragedy struck on Monday, when a car accident in the Dass Local Government Area of Bauchi State claimed the lives of four people.
Additionally, three people were injured and 11 people were confirmed dead in a car accident on the Bunza/Maidahini Road in Kebbi State’s Bunza Local Government Area.

The Niger State accident happened at Etsu-Woro village in the state’s Lavun Local Government Area at approximately 10:10 p.m.
According to reports, the luxury bus that was in the accident was carrying about 87 people on its way from Zaria to Lagos.

Mr. Kumar Tsukwan, Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, Niger State, confirmed the incident to journalists yesterday in Minna and said his men arrived on the scene eight minutes after learning of the accident.

“The truck was carrying 84 people and goods, and there was only one accident,” he said. Seven children, six women, and 74 men made up the victims. Ten people survived without any injuries, while 45 people — including 39 men, three women, and three children — suffered injuries.

He stated that the bodies of the deceased were also placed at the Kutigi hospital morgue while the victims were immediately evacuated to the general hospital Kutigi for prompt medical attention.

Mr. Yusuf Abdullahi, Sector Commander, FRSC, in Bauchi State, said five additional people suffered serious injuries in the crash. The sole incident, according to him, involved a green commercial Ford Galaxy with nine passengers inside.

“Nine people were involved in the crash, and there were eight adult males and one adult female,” he said. On the scene, four male adults died, leaving five other people — four male adults and one female adult — injured.

According to Abdullahi, the crash happened at 10.30 a.m. and was caused by a burst tire and a loss of control. He claimed that the corps arrived at the crash site and cleared the area in just under 15 minutes.

The sector commander reported that the General Hospital, Dass received both the bodies of the deceased and the injured for identification and treatment.

When driving on the roads, he advised drivers to always be aware of the rules and regulations governing traffic.
