The House of Representatives has passed a bill on its second reading that aims to amend the Electoral Act.

The bill, which is supported by Francis Waive, suggests holding the general elections on the same day in order to avoid the bandwagon effect and save the nation money and time.

In an effort to lower the number of cases that would go to court, the amendment also aims to make the electronic transmission of results mandatory and to punish those who file pointless petitions with hefty fines.

Should the amendment be approved, the electoral umpire will conduct a new voter registration drive for qualified voters.
