Court remands Ondo teen who killed neighbor to be with her girlfriend

A 14-year-old boy named Marvelous Asefon has been placed in remand by an Ondo State Magistrate Court in Akure, the state’s capital, over the alleged murder of his next-door neighbor, Sunday Ogele.

According to reports, the accused was detained by members of the State Police Command after fatally stabbing the deceased with a pair of scissors during an altercation over a girlfriend in Oka Akoko, the state’s capital and Akoko South-West Local Government Area, in April.

 

 

Later, he was arraigned in court and charged with one count of murder.

The charge read, “That you, Marvelous Asefon,’m’ did kill one Sunday Ogele’m’ 17 years old by stabbing him with scissors in his rib, which caused his death on April 20, Sunday, 2023 at 8:pm at Kanmu, Oka-Akoko in the Ondo State Magisterial District.”

The offense violates Sections 319(1) and 316 of the Criminal Code, Cap. 37, Vol. 2, Laws of Ondo State, 2016, according to the prosecution.

However, the defendant entered a not guilty plea to the charge, but the court did not accept it.

Martins Olowofeso, the prosecutor, urged the court in an application to remand the defendant to the correctional facility until the state’s director of public prosecutions issued an opinion.

The magistrate, Folashade Aduroja, ordered the defendant to be kept on remand and continued the case’s hearing until June 11 until that date.
