Gunmen allegedly killed five people in the Mangu Local Government Area’s Sohon Kerang community on Monday, despite the Plateau State Government’s curfew.

The suspects fled into the bush after the crime between 5pm and 8pm.

The attack came after gunmen killed several people in neighbouring communities last week.

On Tuesday, Sohon Kerang resident Joseph Kabir told our correspondent that a man and his wife were among the victims and that they were all buried together a day after the attack.

Kabir said, “I can confirm that five people, including a man and his wife, were killed by terrorists between 5pm and 8pm on Monday, June 26, 2023, in the Sohon Kerang community of the Kerang District, Mangu Local Government Area.

“We thought the government curfew would stop terrorists from killing innocent residents. However, around 5pm, gunmen entered the community behind SWAN Water Company Limited and began shooting, killing the victims.

After their crimes, they fled into the bush. Residents mourning the victims found their corpses this morning. This morning, victims were mass-buried.”
