Gunmen abduct chief imam in Kogi

Gunmen have abducted Sheikh Quasim Musa, the chief imam of Iyara in Ijumu Local Government Area of Kogi State. 

The incident occurred on Monday night outside his residence in Ilukpa, Iyara, where the gunmen, operating in a commando style, shot sporadically before abducting him.

Mr. E.K. Adebayo, the Public Relations Officer of the Iyara Development Association, described the abduction as cowardly and unfortunate, especially during the holy month of Ramadan. 

He called on relevant authorities to take action to ensure the safe release of the religious leader.

The Kogi State Police Public Relations Officer, SP William Ovye Aya, confirmed the incident on Tuesday. 

He stated that the Commissioner of Police had deployed tactical teams, the Police Mobile Force (PMF), quick response units, divisional police officers, local vigilantes, and other security agencies to rescue the abducted imam unharmed.
