Governor Nasir El-rufai of Kaduna State has said his position on ransom payment to bandits is not born out of insensitivity adding that he won’t involve in such even if his son is kidnapped.

El-rufai said this during a radio interview today

“I mean it and I will say it again here. Even if my son is kidnapped, I will rather pray for him to make heaven instead, because I won’t pay any ransom,” he said.

The Governor also restated that his  administration is not considering paying ransom to secure the release of the students abducted by bandits from the Federal College of Forestry Mechanisation, Kaduna, in March.

According to him, the government is “absolutely not paying ransom” but considering other means to ensure the students are returned to their parents.

El-rufai has never hidden his aversion to ransom payment since Kaduna and other Northwest states became hotbeds of banditry.

While other governors in the region had, at one time or the other, shown readiness to enter into peace talks with bandits, the former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, has said any bandit caught in his state would be killed.

Just yesterday he said bandits have lost right to life and deserve to be wiped out.
