Security personnel in Kaduna have detained 98 thugs known as Sara Suka, who are accused of stealing the phones of innocent people and causing havoc in the neighbourhoods.

Kaduna State Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs Samuel Aruwan said in a statement on Saturday that Governor Nasir El-Rufai, who called for aggressive action against the criminals, has received a progress report from the Kaduna State Police Command. El-Rufai was concerned about the rise in urban gangsterism committed by criminals known as “Sara-Suka” in Kaduna Metropolis.
According to Aruwan, the criminals had been attacking people and stealing their belongings, including mobile phones. This had led to the loss of several lives and serious injuries inflicted on innocent people.

A total of 98 suspects were detained between April 26 and April 28, 2023, according to the report, which included visual proof. Of those, 19 have been charged with crimes, while 61 others are still being looked into by various divisions throughout the Kaduna Metropolis. 18 of those detained have been handed over to the State Criminal Investigation Department for additional investigation and possible prosecution.

The report also stated that several exhibits, including stolen cell phones, razor-sharp knives, scissors, cudgels, dried leaves thought to be hemp from India, various hard drugs and accessories for their consumption, master keys, and other valuables were found on the suspects.

The Governor charged the Command to ensure thorough prosecution without compromising, and he ordered that the manhunt for those still at large be stepped up until they are all apprehended.
