Team Nigeria has won a total of 12 medals on the second day of the ongoing 2023 African Under-18 and Under-20 Athletics Championships in Ndola, Zambia.
Nigerian athletes won seven gold, five silver, and five bronze medals, for a total of 17 medals. The Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) President, Tonobok Okowa, expressed confidence in the team’s ability to perform well in the competition, saying that their goal was to improve on previous outings.
“I am confident we will win more medals on Monday (yesterday), and our goal is to improve on our previous performances in the competition,” he said. Following suit, Samuel Onikeku, Technical Director of the AFN, praised the athletes for their performances thus far in the competition.
Nigeria’s outstanding performance at the competition has put them neck and neck with South Africa for control of the medals table. The 42 Nigerian athletes competing in the championships have demonstrated that they are well prepared for the competition, with several athletes still hoping to win more medals in their various events.
