The 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, and stakeholders in Canada have concluded plans to meet and brainstorm on possible solutions to the worsening insecurity and economic challenges in Nigeria.

According to a statement on Monday, the meeting scheduled for May 3, 2024, at Hilton Garden Inn, is being facilitated by the Coalition of Nigerian Canadian Interest Groups.

The CONCIG said the initiative was part of its efforts to strengthen the collaboration between Canadian and Nigerian governments “towards good governance in building a better world for now and the future.”

The statement signed by the CONCIG Coalition Lead, Vwede  Obahor, read: “As Nigerians residing in Canada, we want to be part of nation-building in Canada and our country of origin in bringing some selected Nigerian business and political players to come and have an interaction with political stakeholders in Canada. This, we believe, will go a long way to not only forge some high-level engagements and relationship which Canada and Nigeria need, thereby engendering opening areas of socio-economic benefits between Nigeria and Canada.”

On his part, the Coordinator of the coalition, Fabian Nwaoha, said, “Our initiative to have this townhall meeting with Peter Obi as the keynote speaker is due to his constant expression on the need to reduce the cost of governance, which alludes in many ways to the kind of governance we experience here in Canada. The coalition – CONCIG – will also be inviting other respected policymakers in Nigeria to interact with Nigerians in the Diaspora and engage with some government officials in Canada to build an alliance that will be beneficial to Nigeria and Canada.”
