Ondo State’s All Progressives Congress (APC) announced on Monday that it would suspend Olumide Awolumate, the party’s chairman in the state’s Akoko North-West Local Government Area, for allegedly assaulting Mrs. Juliana Osadahun, the state commissioner for woman affairs and social development.
It was previously reported that Awolumate allegedly injured the Commissioner’s head on camera while providing palliative care on Sunday in Arigidi Akoko.
In an interview with Punch, Ade Adetimehim, the chairman of the APC in Ondo State, denounced the alleged assault on the commissioner and announced that the party would discuss the incident today (Monday).
We don’t tolerate indiscipline in our party, he declared. The indiscreet chairman would be demoted for engaging in such a conspicuous, humiliating act.
“I have told the local government’s party chairman to bring everyone to Akure today (Monday), where we will discuss the situation and, if required, impose the proper sanctions. The ward chairman, however, would be put on leave.
Princess Oluwatosin Ajirotutu, the deputy majority leader of the Ondo State House of Assembly, also denounced the alleged assault on the commissioner.

She urged the state police command to detain and charge the APC leader.
“It is disgusting and barbaric to have watched a video clip that surfaced and has caused pandemonium in the media space and Arigidi in Akoko Northwest of Ondo State following the directive of Ondo State Government on subsidy palliatives distribution across the state,” the legislator stated.
“Mr. Awolumate Olumide’s attack on Hon. Adebunmi Osadahun is abhorrent, and the Ondo State Commissioner of Police should arrest him and subject him to the harshest disciplinary measures possible. Meanwhile, the Ondo State Attorney General should bring an instant case against Mr. Olumide.
“In any area of Ondo State and the nation, assault on women should not be accepted. Women require our compassion in any circumstance due to their delicate societal positions.
