Nyesom Wike, the minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), declared on Saturday that his administration has complied with every need that the Rivers State parties had agreed upon with President Bola Tinubu.
The parties decided to promptly withdraw all legal actions Similaye Fubara, the governor of Rivers State, and his staff had filed during a meeting with the president on December 18, 2018, at the State House in Abuja.
Additionally, they decided to acknowledge Martin Amaewhule’s leadership as the speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly.
During the crisis, lawmakers who supported the governor chose Edison Ehie to be the Assembly’s speaker.
Along with other steps, the parties also decided to recognise Amaewhule and the other twenty-six MPs who defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Wike complimented President Tinubu for his crisis management efforts while visiting the Oba of Ogbaland, Eze Nnam Obi III, in the Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni local government area of the state.
In addition, he reiterated his support for state peace.
Wike was escorted to the palace by Felix Obuah, the Minister of State for Petroleum, Senator Heineken Lopobiri, and Timipire Sylva, the former governor of Bayelsa State.
Senators Barinada Mpigi, Sam Anyanwu, and Chief Victor Giadom, an APC leader, were also present on the trip.
“We have accepted whatever decision the President has made, and we have fulfilled all of his requirements because I promised not to disappoint you,” the minister stated.
This is merely to inform you that we have granted your request to ensure calm in the state where you requested Mr. President to step in.
And I want you to use this chance to keep praying that God would continue to give Mr. President the discernment he needs to lead this country’s affairs.
“Tinubu is not a native of this state. There are a lot of people in charge of this nation’s affairs, other states are in difficulty, and very rarely does someone declare, “I need peace in the state,” regardless of their political affiliation.
“Peace in the states will contribute to peace in Nigeria. Thus, I will implore you and your council to keep praying for Mr. President so that God may continue to grant him the discernment necessary to lead the nation’s affairs.
