But for the swift intervention of a joint team of police, vigilante and other security operatives, who foiled another kidnapping attempt, at least two housewives would have been in the clutches of bandits in the state.
The attempt was said to have been made on Sunday night when the bandits,who have become daring and emboldened in executing their dastardly operations, were said to have invadedĀ Kofar Kuyambana low-cost housing estate in Zaria, Kaduna State.
The bandits had already kidnapped the two housewives before theĀ joint team of security operatives, who responded to distress call, stormed the area, battled the bandits, and arrested five of them (the bandits).
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Mohammed Jalige, confirmed the incident last night.
Meanwhile, it was gathered there were casualities in theĀ course of rescuing the abducted housewives as some Islamic pupils were hit by bullet and taken to an undisclosed hospital in Zaria for medical attention.
The bandits were said to have invaded the estate in large numbers on motorcycles, shooting indiscriminately.
āThey succeeded in taking away the Custom Officerās wife, leaving the children who were shouting, behind,ā said the source, adding that āthe bandits attacked another house where another wife was taken away too.ā
āThe police were able to arrest two of them (bandits) on Sunday while the other three (bandits) were arrested this morning (Monday),ā a source said.
