Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, director general of the World Trade Organization (WTO), stated that President Bola Tinubu is aware of the hardship that Nigerians are going through as a result of the elimination of fuel subsidies.
After meeting with President Tinubu at the State House in Abuja on Tuesday with former Minister of State for Health and Minister-designate, Dr. Mohammed Pate, Okonjo-Iweala made this statement to reporters.
She claimed that she had come to see Tinubu in order to discuss ways to lessen poverty in Nigeria.
Helping Nigerians to improve their precarious circumstances is what is required right now, according to Okonjo-Iweala.
“Our discussion with the president focused on developing strategies to promote women’s empowerment, increase digital trade within Nigeria’s economy, and create jobs.
“Though this wasn’t really a WTO mission, we were able to speak with Mr. President to discuss what kinds of programs could be implemented to ensure that Nigerians are safe.
“We had a discussion about looking at grassroots and community programs that can be implemented to create jobs for young people trying to support women and children who are bearing the brunt of some of the suffering in the country.”
Okonjo-Iweala added that the visit gave them the chance to discuss longer-term investments in a variety of other Nigerian industries, including the pharmaceutical sector.
We also discussed the kind of assistance that the WTO, or World Trade Organization, can provide, she continued.
“We are already working in Nigeria, especially with women who run small and medium-sized businesses, to try and improve the quality of their goods so that they can sell more internationally, whether it be in the textile or agricultural industries.
“We’re attempting to assist them in trading digitally. Digital trade is the future’s craze. How can we then empower Nigerian women and small and medium-sized businesses nationwide to increase employment?

“That is what Nigeria needs right now to improve the people’s challenging circumstances.
As the Director General of the World Trade Organization, we will try to do everything we can to support Nigerians at this specific time. That is what we discussed with Mr. President.
Pate, a former CEO of the international vaccine alliance GAVI, claimed that Tinubu is actively working to lessen the suffering and pain of the populace.
