Tinubu reappoints NAFDAC DG, Adeyeye, names Idris new NCDC boss, makes other leadership changes in health, social welfare sector
Additionally, the President named Dr. Olajide Idris as the next Director-General of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, succeeding Prof. Ifedayo Adetifa.
Prof. Moji Adeyeye, the Chief Executive Officer of the National Agency for Food and Drugs Administration and Control (NAFDAC), has been reappointed by President Bola Tinubu.
Additionally, the President named Dr. Olajide Idris as the next Director-General of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, succeeding Prof. Ifedayo Adetifa.
This, according to a statement from the Presidency, is a continuation of Tinubu’s resolve to implement governance and regulatory frameworks that are in line with international best practices, and to demonstrate his commitment to providing all Nigerians with access to high-quality, reasonably priced healthcare at a cost that is reasonable.
The following board chairpersons and chief executive officers within the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare were appointed and reappointed with President Bola Tinubu’s approval:
(1) NAFDAC, the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control:
Dr. Mansur Kabir serves as the board chair.
President and CEO: Professor Moji Adeyeye
(2) The NBSC, or National Blood Service Commission:
Prof. Abba Zubairu serves as the board chair.
Head of the Department: Dr. Saleh Yuguda
(3) Nigeria’s Medical and Dental Council (MDCN):
Chairperson of the Board: Prof. Afolabi Lesi
Head of the Department: Dr. Fatima Kyari
(4) Nigerian Pharmacy Council (PCN):
Chairperson of the Board: Pharm. Wasilat Giwa
President and CEO: Pharm. Ibrahim Ahmed
(5) Nigeria’s Medical Laboratory Science Council (MLSCN):
Chairperson of the Board: Dr. Babajide Salako
Head of the company: Dr. Tosan Erhabor
The teaching hospital of Moddibo Adama University, Yola (MAUTH):
Prof. Adamu G. Bakari is the CEO and chief medical director.
The Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital (ISTH) is located in Irrua.
Prof. Reuben Eifediyi serves as CEO and chief medical director.
Additionally, President Tinubu gave his approval to the selection of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control’s (NCDC) new CEO, who would start work on February 19, 2024:

The statement continues, “Furthermore, it is important to highlight that President Tinubu has carefully taken into account the depth of expertise of each eligible and previously stated Nigerian, who will be in charge of advancing his Renewed Hope Agenda in the industry. Specifics of the agenda include the following:
“Dr. Olajide Idris, the newly appointed Director-General and CEO of NCDC, graduated with his MBBS from the University of Lagos’ College of Medicine. He then went on to Yale University, an Ivy League institution in Connecticut, USA, to earn an MPH in public health. After working as the Permanent Secretary in the Lagos State Ministry of Health from 1999 to 2007, he would go on to become the Commissioner of Health in Lagos State from 2007 to 2019.
Prof. Abba Zubairu, PhD, the new chairperson of the NBSC, has held the position of Medical Director of the renowned Mayo Clinic in the United States of America. This comes after a lengthy career in which he completed a clinical fellowship at the Harvard Medical School’s Transfusion Medicine Program, where he earned a Master’s degree in Clinical Science, and worked as a resident physician at the University of Pennsylvania (UPenn) Hospital as a Post-Doctoral Fellow.
“The new CEO of MDCN, Dr. Fatima Kyari, PhD, is a distinguished ophthalmologist and Fellow of the Nigeria Academy of Medicine (FNAMed). She graduated with her MBBS from Ahmadu Bello University in Zaria, then went on to earn an MPH in public health from the School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine at the University of London, and then a PhD in public health from the same institution.”
